The Senior Volunteers Program
The AmeriCorps Seniors Program of the Hispanic-American Institute assigns volunteers to fulfill a dual purpose: to engage individuals aged 55 and older in volunteer service to address critical community needs and to provide these individuals with a high-quality experience that enriches their lives.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify as a volunteer, the applicant must be interested in volunteering, be 55 years of age or older, and pass a criminal background check.
What services do Volunteers Friends of Puerto Rico provide?
Service opportunities are diverse and may include:

Helping communities prepare for hurricanes and other natural disasters.

Providing transportation to essential appointments for participants in need.

Delivering prepared meals to participants in need.

Providing essential information to communities.
Volunteer Schedules and Benefits
Volunteers with Volunteers Friends of Puerto Rico choose how, where, and how often they wish to serve. Volunteers receive orientation before starting service and training on the organization where they will serve. Volunteers in the AmeriCorps Senior Companion Project receive a stipend of $4 per hour.
